Haryana which literally means ‘Abode of God’ is a state that lies in north-central India. The city of Chandigarh, within the Chandigarh union territory, serves as the capital of not only that territory but also of the states of Haryana and Punjab.

Haryana was formed on 1 November 1966, as an outcome of the partition of state of Punjab into two separate states—Punjabi-speaking Punjab and Hindi-speaking Haryana.

Geographical Location:  It is surrounded on the northwest by the state of Punjab and the union territory of Chandigarh, on the north and northeast by the states of Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand, on the east by the state of Uttar Pradesh and the union territory of Delhi, and on the south and southwest by the state of Rajasthan.

The climate of Haryana varies from Arid to Semi Arid usually but during winter the temperature could drop below the freezing point. From vegetation point of view, it has less to offer since there is little natural vegetation available.

The 2011 Census indicates that Haryana holds Hindus (87.45%) in majority and rest of the population belongs to either from Sikh (4.91%) community or from Muslims community (7.03%).

Demography of Haryana

Jaats are in the dominant position in the state with about 25% population. Out of 80 varied castes, 63 castes have been informed as a Scheduled Caste or Backward Class in the state. Compared to 28.43% in the 1991-2001 periods, Haryana has recorded a population development of 19.90% in the midst of 2001-2011 when stood out from 28.43% in the prior decade of 1991-2001. While the total population has risen from 21,144,564 in 2001 to 25,351,462 in 2011, the number of males has gone up from 11,363,953 to 13,494,734 in the year 2011. Similarly, the number of females shot up from 9,780,611 to 11,856,728 in 2011.
