Geographical Location: It is bounded by the Indian states of Uttar Pradesh and Jharkhand to the north and northeast, Odisha to the east, Telangana (formerly part of Andhra Pradesh) to the south, and Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh to the west.

Climate: The climate of Chhattisgarh is mostly Tropical i.e. summer is hot, dry, and windy while winters are usually pleasant and dry & is mostly governed by Monsoon pattern.

According to the data of Census 2011, Chhattisgarh has population of 2.56 Crores, an increase from figure of 2.08 Crore in 2001 census. Total population of Chhattisgarh as per the census is 25,545,198 of which male and female are 12,832,895 and 12,712,303 respectively.

According to the data available in 2011 census, the 93.25% of the population follows Hinduism, while 2% followed Islam, 1% Christianity and some of them having Buddhism, Jainism or diverse religions. The tribes of Chhattisgarh follow Sarnaism which is an indigenous religion. Chhattisgarh has a sex ratio of 991 females per 1000 males; this proportion is scant when compared with other various states. The official language is Hindi and is spoken by non-provincial population of the state. Chhattisgarhi, a language of Hindi tongue, is articulated and grasped by the predominating part of people in Chhattisgarh.

The population density of the state is 189 persons per square kilometer. The total population growth in this decade was 22.61% while earlier it was 18.06%. The population of Chhattisgarh forms 2.11 % of India in 2011. In 2001, the figure was around 2.03 percent. With reference to the population growth, the state has assumed control over its mother province of Madhya Pradesh.
